“You owe Black Men an apology” – Netizens respond to Barack and Michelle Obama’s statement about the 2024 Presidential Election results

Barack and Michelle Obama issued a statement in response to the loss of Democratic nominee Kamala Harriman during the 2024 presidential election. The former president and Michelle Obama explained in an X message shared on November 6, 2024 that, while the result was not as they had hoped, “living a democracy” required them to recognize different points of views.
In a large and diverse country like ours, you can’t expect to always agree on everything. Progress requires that we extend grace and good faith to those with whom our views are in sharp contrast. This is how we have come so far and how we will continue to build a more equal, fair, and free country.

The statement received mixed reactions. One user commented on Obama’s speech in Pittsburgh, October 10, urging Black men not to vote for Harris.
You owe Black males an apology for the way you treated them.

The fight continues. Next up, the midterms. Let’s go!” One wrote: “Let’s go!”
Another person commented, “A very classy speech from an amazing president.”
I know it was hard to watch your former vice-president lose, but a very grateful message Mr. President. “You should run again”, a user said.

Others criticised him for his actions. One even stated that he was “out-of-touch” with the realities of the American working class.

A person commented, “Looks as though your 4th term has been REJECTED.”
One person said, “Congratulations for moving the needle…towards Trump.”
Another added, “You relied upon Hollywood who is out-of-touch with the American working class.”

“This is clearly not the outcome we hoped for” – Barack and Michelle Obama confirmed a peaceful power transfer

In a statement, Barack Obama and Michelle Obama expressed their pride in VP Kamala and Governor Tim Walz. They called them “two exceptional public servants who led a remarkable campaign.” The Obamas also thanked staff and volunteers that worked on the Democratic Campaign. The statement continued with:

This is not the result we hoped for. We have profound disagreements with Republicans on many issues. In a democratic society, it is important to recognize that your point of view may not always be the one to win and accept the peaceful transfer power.
He added:

Considering the challenges the country has faced over the past few years, such as the COVID-19 epidemic and the price increases that resulted, the former President explained that “nothing more than treading water can be done, no matter how hard you work.” He continued:

Last night, it was clear that America wasn’t immune to the conditions that have caused headwinds in democratic countries around the globe.
However, Obama explained that the problems could be resolved if everyone listened to one another. The former POTUS campaigned with his wife for Kamala throughout the month of October. This included the rallies in Detroit and Pittsburgh.

Obama’s speech at the latter rally is widely discussed. In his speech, Obama called out black men and women for not being enthusiastic about Harris. He said they would prefer to elect someone who has “consistently demonstrated disregard” for Black men and communities. They argued that Black men were “alienated” and that their concerns went beyond “criminal justice” to include “economic opportunity, and broader representation in politics.” The Associated Press announced Donald Trump’s win earlier that day, after Wisconsin electoral votes favored him. Trump will be the 47th president of the United States. His running mate JD Vance will serve as the 50th vice president of the United States. She said that Democrats will continue to “fight for freedom”, and that they would engage in a “peaceful transfer of power”. “
