Polling Nostradamus Allan Lichtman’s botched election predictions are met with a reaction from netizens.

Allan Lichtman of US Nostradamus, who had predicted Kamala Harris would win the election, made a statement following Wednesday’s election results. Donald Trump was elected 47th president of the United States after securing the 295 electoral vote.
“Well, I was wrong in my predictions for the presidential election. “I admit it. “I am currently taking a day off today, on Wednesday.”

The History professor has been using his “13 Keys to the White House” formula to foretell who would be the U.S. President since 1984, making nine out of his ten predictions come true.

These 13 keys include — Party mandate, Contest, Incumbency, Third party, Short term economy, Long term economy, Policy change, Social unrest, Scandal, Foreign/military failure, Foreign/military success, Incumbent charisma, and Challenger charisma.

However, after Harris’ defeat, Lichtman told viewers he would assess why his keys went wrong this time on his live show on YouTube on Thursday at 9 p.m. He would also assess:

What we can learn about the past and what this election means for our future as a country.

Netizens quickly took to social media to react to Allan Lichtman’s statement. One user commented on a X repost by Collin Rugg of Lichtman’s video:

He misapplied keys to Harris on purpose. “The 13 keys aren’t the issue/HE is the issue”

“Not only did he get it horribly wrong but he also was extremely smug and condescending towards anyone who questioned his conclusions. Another commenter wrote “Bye”.

Several others claimed that the prognosticator was Harris-biased, and evaluated his keys in a manner which would favor her.

You’ve ruined yourself with your obviously biased polling. “You are now officially irrelevant”, said another person.

“Don’t underestimate Americans. We base our voting on what we personally believe to be best, not on the data or stats that pollsters use. Another person said that Donald Trump is the best candidate to restore American prosperity.
Many wrote Allan Lichtman had predicted the outcome of the election from an emotional standpoint rather than a factual perspective.
“The keys are wrong because he did not look at what was done to over half of the country because they have different opinions.” One X user said that he made predictions based not on data but emotions.

Allan Lichtman confirmed his prediction prior to Trump being declared the winner of the presidential race

During a Monday conversation with CNN host Laura Coates, she asked Allan Lichtman this question:

Your keys point towards Kamala Harris. What has happened in the past few weeks that makes you more confident about your prediction?

Lichtman responded:

“Nothing has happened.” The so-called “October surprise” is the biggest myth in American political life. “I’ve never changed my predictions that I made before the election.”
The Historian spoke of the biggest surprise in October before the 2016 Presidential Election. A 2005 tape was released two days prior to a debate back then between Hillary Clinton, and Donald Trump. According to the tape, Trump is heard using vulgar language and discussing his attraction towards women. Allan Lichtman, despite this, maintained his prediction of Trump winning the election. This turned out to be true. When asked why he was more anxious before the election in 2024, Lichtman explained that he felt this way because of the “hate”. This had never happened to him before. He said that the safety of his family was in danger, which required police intervention.
It’s been very upsetting. Another thing, I think democracy is at stake in this election. “If I’m mistaken, then so be it.”

The History professor said that even if he is wrong once, his 13 Keys System should not be discredited. He did, however, express his concern about the potential threat that could be posed to American democracy. He opined there has been a “decline of democracy all over this world” in recent times.

Shortly before the results were out on Wednesday, Allan Lichtman called statistician Nate Silver’s poll “unreliable”. Lichtman criticized Silver’s claim that the outcome of the election could be determined by luck. He mourned once more the supposed loss in democracy as Trump received more votes and eventually won.
